Why You Should Create A Playlist Before Traveling
Have you ever been listening to the radio and a song comes on that takes you back to a special memory? I think it’s fair to say that 99% of the world has experienced this. (Pure science here, I know)
But really, science does have a lot to say on the topic. Studies show that music can improve memories, makes us pay attention, and even activates regions of the brain spared by Alzheimer’s disease.
Music has a powerful impact on our ability to recollect.
Stop for a moment and think about some of your favorite songs, songs that take you back somewhere comforting, victorious, beautiful, or bold.
What do you see?
What do you feel?
Music moves us to reflection. And we are in charge of this soundtrack of our lives.
So as you look out this summer, whether you’re going out for some special date nights with your husband, on a family beach vacation, or to climb Machu Picchu - make a playlist of songs that are inspiring you, songs that seem to fit the journey.
As your trip goes along and you listen to the songs, you’re making memories that can take you right back to that time and place.
Don’t hesitate to add songs to the list as you travel. If you hear a song in a restaurant or on the radio in some foreign place, add it to the list. The idea of a ‘travel playlist,’ is meant to be an evolving series of moments that brings joy.
So my friends, if we are intentionally creating the scrapbook of our lives, let’s create the soundtrack of our lives as well - and let’s begin with our travels.
